Anya is the owner and operator of Big Red Dog Homestay, a passion founded since the age of 13 where she started volunteering and gaining experience anywhere she could at local groomers, vets, dog day-cares, and animal shelters.
Anya poured herself into research, learning everything she could about dog breeds, dog behaviour, breed backgrounds, training methods and training tools, soaking it all in and gained knowledge/experience anywhere she could followed by studies in Pet First Aid, Dog Behaviour, and Dog Food & Health.
Having two of her own, Taika, a working line German Shepherd and Snow, a Siberian Husky - both rehomes requiring Anya's experience and dedication to train out behavioural issues, Taika and Snow now keep the other canine guests at Big Red Dog Homestay company, sharing their tricks and good behaviours.

We've had the privilege of having our fur baby Maddie stay with Anya at Big Red Dog. This has been incredible for us as Maddie can be nervous and Anya has helped her to feel so at ease. Maddie has had the time of her life playing with the other dogs and has been treated as if she was Anya's very own pooch. Anya is very professional and has been super flexible to meet our needs. My husband and I highly recommend Big Red Dog and promise your fur baby will have the time of their life there!
Luna has loved her stays at Big Red Dog! She's excited to see Anya when she gets there, and we know she has a good time because Anya sends us great updates and pictures 🥰 It's so nice knowing that Luna is well looked after when we go away.

Our big girls Charlie and Sadie love their doggy holiday with Anya at Big Red Dog! When Anya picks them up their eyes light up with excitement with their big doggy smiles - they can’t get in the van fast enough. I love seeing the pictures of their adventure walks, playing with the other doggies and lounging in the sun. We know our girls love Anya and we love Anya for loving our fur girls. I would highly recommend Anya and Big Red Dog.
Lulu has been a member of our family for almost a year and as with any family, it is always hard to leave them behind when we go and travel for work or holiday. Before I came across BRD Homestay. I would choose not to travel for fear of Lulu not being looked after or not having the safe & happy environment that she deserves. Anya changed all of that - giving us the ability to go and do our own thing without guilt. Anya provides on-time pick ups and drop offs, and a fun experience for Lulu....
I can’t recommend BRD Homestays highly enough! Scout loves staying with Anya and is so happily exhausted after his adventures and so well taken care of. I love seeing the photos and videos of what he gets up to during his days. Anya has also done some training with our pup and we have noticed a massive change in his behaviour since following her advice. Thanks Anya - you are amazing!
We recently took ownership of Monty so it was important to us to find a place where he had the freedom to move about, socialize (he's a big baby) and go for walks. From the moment we met Anya we could see she had a great rapport with dogs and Monty couldn't get through her door fast enough. The updates online and seeing Monty having fun with the other dogs reassured us that we had made the right decision to leave him with BRD.
Anya from BRD is the ultimate Dog whisperer. My pooch Goose has stayed a few times & absolutely adores her. Having someone you can trust with your dog is everything! Thankyou BRD! 100% highly recommended🙏♥️
Big Red Dog is the one and only place in Wellington you need to book your fur baby into! Anya offers a unique experience with her homestay environment, she is so accommodating and wonderful at sending updates of photos & videos so we could relax knowing our girl was well looked after, whilst having the time of her life out on adventures! Poppy can’t wait to come back!
When we go away we wanted to find Jet a home away from home. At Big Red Dog Homestay that’s exactly what he gets. The photo updates we get always makes you feel happy that he is having a great time. The great adventure walks always leave me amazed that Anya can have such control with all the dogs. For us it is important that Jet is happy and enjoys where he is staying and we know when we leave him he just loves Anya ❤️ We are so glad we found Big Red Dog Homestay.
We wouldn’t trust anyone else to look after our big wolves & honestly cannot recommend BRD enough!!! Anya has known our boys since they were a year old & they love her to bits - she really is their second mum ♥️♥️ We are so incredibly proud of her and her business venture & beyond thankful our fur babies have the most AMAZING home away from home to go to! BRD provides everything your dog needs for a comfortable stay, including food and beds. You are welcome to send your dog with their bed and food, but it’s not required.
BRD feeds the dogs “CopRice” or “Real Dog Food” kibble. We use all natural treats from “The Ruff Ruff Company”.
Please let us know and provide enough food for their stay and we will happily accommodate.
Unfortunately due to the way we run BRD, we do not offer onsite tours of our facilities. But we are happy to organise a meet and greet with you off-site either at your house, over a video call or at a local dog friendly park. If you would like this, please flick us an email and we will get this booked in for you.
Absolutely, you are welcome to drop off or pick up your pooch. This is available between 9am-6pm, at a designated time slot that is arranged with your booking.
We service most of the Wellington area. Please check out our prices page to see if your suburb is listed. If we haven’t included your area, please get in touch, we may be able to work something out.
We do not take entire dogs, so yes all dogs over the age of 6 months need to be de-sexed.
We take dogs of any age, from puppies to seniors. Puppies will need to be fully vaccinated. If you have an older dog, just let us know their fitness and activity levels so we know if they can come on the adventure walks.
Please get in touch to discuss. In most cases we can accommodate this and administer meds, but it is case by case basis.
This is definitely a service we provide, however we do need to know how your dog responds/reacts to this being done.
All homestays are paid prior to your dog arriving. We will invoice you beforehand.
No deposit needed, but a cancellation fee is charged if less than 48hrs notice is given. Please read our Terms and Conditions.
